History of the Hills

Mountsorrel is a town in the English county Leicestershire situated on the main road north from Leicester on the western banks of the Soar river. Through the ages this location has given the town a deep and varied history from traces of Roman habitation, through the era of its castle and the first Barons’ War, a thriving medieval market, the English Civil war and into the more modern era of lace work, the canal and of course granite quarrying which is still going on today!

We have split our overview of this history into 3 sections :

1 – A brief introduction to the history of the town.

2 – The street and local area of the town that we live in – Why is this site called “Near the Hills“?.

3 – Our house and the people that have lived in it over the years.
